German At a Glance

Ever since we've been told to search for supplementary materials for our German classes two weeks ago, I've been keeping my eyes open for books, music, blogs, and other forms of media. I've been asking relatives and friends if they have materials that I could borrow. However my search has yielded nothing so far. So imagine my surprise when yesterday, while I was browsing through the National Bookstore, my eyes landed on this tiny book in the end of the shelf. It was just about the size of my palm and definitely easy to miss. I took the book out, opened a few pages, and decided that it was worth buying!

German At a Glance is a phrase book and dictionary for travelers, and it was just the thing I needed. It's a compact version of everything you need to know to get you by. It's amazing! I've finished Chapter 1 last night and I've also learned a few phrases & sentences already. I'll expound more on that later, but for now, here's a glimpse of what this bite-sized book holds. :-)

Amidst the millions, my eyes were set on only one.

The German Alphabet wasn't enough for me so I decided to search for a video about numbers and I found this perfect clip! It's amazingly easy to understand, plus the tune is quite catchy. Perfect for starters like me!!! I shall play this over and over again so I can become familiar with the pronunciation, inflection and such. It's difficult to learn a new language but it can be done! :-)

The hunt continues, and I land on YouTube.

The perks of having no classes on a Monday is that I get to catch up on any homework and/or project that I've missed during the weekend. And so I've dedicated the whole morning of today to scour the World Wide Web for anything that might help me with my German. YouTube was perhaps one of the best choices for this feat. At first I didn't know what to look for and the millions of videos available in YouTube did not help me decide. Thank goodness I suddenly remembered a lesson we had last, last week when Frau Arroyo played the German Alphabet for us. Without further ado, here it is! I downloaded it and have been listening to it for the past few minutes. :-)
